Tsavo East & West

Rugged terrain and famous red elephants in Kenya's largest national park system.

Southeastern Kenya
2-5 Days
Best: June - October

Overview

Tsavo East and West National Parks together form one of the world's largest national park systems, covering over 22,000 square kilometers of pristine African wilderness. These parks offer a raw, untamed safari experience quite different from the more manicured game reserves. Tsavo is famous for its red elephants, which get their distinctive color from rolling in the park's red dust, and for the legendary man-eating lions of Tsavo that terrorized railway workers during the construction of the Kenya-Uganda railway in the 1890s.
